The team work alongside a range of acute, community and GP services, offering consultation with professionals as well as assessment and intervention for patients. The patient group may have complex needs due to comorbidity of physical and mental health, and where physical health conditions may lack clarity around cause. Many of the patients may also have complex interpersonal difficulties or heightened risk due to the distress caused by their symptoms. This role will provide management of the service and team, working alongside the Principal Psychologist and Medical Lead. Candidates for the post should have a background in forming good partnerships in care, managing staff, and building a safe environment for team working. They will have a solid background in mental health, with an understanding of positive risk management, and able to hold this framework for the team in providing a high quality and safely led service. The post holder will be responsible for the day to day running of the service and operational leadership. Working closely with clinical and medical leads, they will ensure governance of service delivery for this complex patient group. They will additionally link with the borough director, Strategic and Operational Lead for Psychological Medicine and senior colleagues to ensure that the team forms a part of the Oldham Living Well wider provision. As a representative of the service, the post holder will be a source of expertise and advocacy to enable other services to better understand the needs of people with long term health conditions or atypical healthcare utilisers. This will include linking with commissioners and trust leads to report on the benefits to patient care, recognising where partnerships may help to improve the lives of patients and developing pathways to improve the patient journey. Psychological Medicine supports patients with long term health conditions and persistent symptoms and also supports people with atypical healthcare utilisation. Patients require interdisciplinary care and have complex mental health presentations as well as physical comorbidities.
