The role will involve supporting a diverse team of consultant surgeons, registrars and nurse practitioners to facilitate robust and effective outpatient and inpatient pathways. You will work closely with colleagues in both clinical and non-clinical capacities across the Cardiovascular directorate and beyond, as well as colleagues from external hospitals. Cardiac Surgery provides adult cardiac surgery to around 1200 patients per year from London and the South East of varying case mix and complexity, with the exception of transplantation. There are eleven cardiac surgeons who operate and the department is recognised for surgical specialist training. The role is based at St Thomas Hospital, where the service is administered and where the consultants, nurses and wards are based. The post holder will provide a range of administrative support to the multi-disciplinary clinical team, especially working very closely with cardiac surgeons and a team of Nurse Practitioners. Other duties include processing clinical letters, answering the telephone and dealing with patient queries. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, efficient, resourceful and able to communicate clearly and effectively. They must be able to prioritise their workload efficiently and stay calm and autonomous in a busy office environment. You will work with two other Patient Pathway Coordinators and provide cover during leave and sickness absences. The role will involve working with sensitive, confidential information, and the successful candidate will be expected to maintain the Trust’s standards and policies at all times. Previous NHS and secretarial experience is desired, but not essential.
