Do you have excellent communication skills, hand to eye co-ordination, flexibility and patient focus? Basic computer skills are also required. This is a demanding physical role which involves standing, bending, walking and pushing phlebotomy trolleys for the length of the shift. As you will be working in the community, as well as in a hospital setting, access to a car or alternative means of transport is an essential requirement for this position. Working flexibly over a 7 day rota you will have shifts covering early morning, afternoon, evening, weekend and Bank Holiday shifts as required. Learn to manage contingencies that arise during the blood collection process within own limitations and seek assistance when necessary. Perform and undertake routine requests for blood specimen collections and work with minimal supervision. Collect and record the correct patient/donor information or data at the time of the sample collection and within full view of the patient/donor. This task calls for long periods of concentration that can be frequently interrupted. The assembly of equipment fit for use and in a manner which makes it fit for disposal by you or others. Manual analysis of urine prior to a specific blood test being performed. (e.g. Glucose/Lactose Tolerance Tests). Identify, select and utilise a suitable site fit for the purpose of blood collection using personal judgmental skills. Identify, select and use suitable/appropriate equipment for the specimen collection using personal judgmental skills. Obtain blood samples from patients/donors to a standard fit for laboratory testing ensuring minimum distress or discomfort is caused to the patient/donor during the blood collection process.
