The post holder will be a key member of the Rheumatology Team and will work closely with the Clinical Lead for Rheumatology and the Service Manager. The successful candidate will have extensive Rheumatology experience and be an autonomous practitioner with advanced clinical expertise and decision-making skills to deliver safe pathways of care. The role will involve case management, running nurse-led clinics and a telephone helpline and liaising with community colleagues. You must be an Independent Nurse Prescriber. The Lead Nurse will be involved in clinical audit and guideline development. You will lead in the development of robust governance, writing and updating local nursing policies and procedures and evaluating their implementation. You will manage a small team of specialist nurses, with responsibility for annual appraisals and development plans. You will act as a role model, championing change and improvement in Rheumatology care. Main duties of the job Work as an expert practitioner responsible for the strategic direction of patient focussed programmes of care, which address the complex and changing health and well-being needs of Rheumatology patients. Be responsible for the leadership and management of senior nursing staff, including the Rheumatology Advanced Nurse Practitioners (band 7s) and the Rheumatology Day Unit Manager (band 7) to ensure flexible delivery of a quality service. Be the budget holder with overall responsibility for the Rheumatology nursing budget. Work with lead clinicians and managers to set and deliver the strategic vision of the service Assess individuals, families and populations holistically using a range of different methods, some of which may not be usually exercised by nurses such as physical assessment and history taking, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests or advanced health needs assessments. Assess and evaluate, with patients and /or carers, the effectiveness of the treatment and care provided and make changes as needed. Work across professional, organisational and system boundaries and proactively develop partnerships Maintain strong professional relationships with counterparts within the Rheumatology service, consultant team and Directorate Management team.
