This role is intended to provide an experience for the successful candidate within pancreatic surgery. MEDICAL STAFF IN THE DEPARTMENT This post will be allocated to the North Yorkshire Pancreas Department led by 5 Consultants. DUTIES OF THE POST - Operating Theatres 3 full day sessions including some day case surgeries - Outpatient Clinics - Attendance in weekly Speciality MDT meeting - Ward based care - Participate in Audit/Teaching/Research - Acute General on call LEVELS OF RESPONSIBILITY The post holder will provide clinical care for acute, elective and outpatients under the supervision of the pancreas consultants. The post holder will be part of the general surgical out of hours specialty registrar rota providing emergency care for acute surgical admissions and referrals, patients on the general surgical wards, the surgical high dependency unit and the intensive care unit. The post holder will be expected to conduct outpatient clinics independently, with support from a consultant. The post holder will be expected to support theatre sessions including day-case surgery. The post holder will contribute to the weekly multi-disciplinary meetings alongside the consultant team. TEACHING AND RESEARCH/STUDY AND TRAINING The Trust as a Teaching hospital recognises the importance of personal development, and all medical staff are expected to provide an appropriate contribution to the undergraduate teaching programme. The precise details of the contribution to teaching will be discussed with the appointee after taking up post where applicable. There is an expectation to collaborate in clinical research and participate in monthly governance audits. The Leeds Teaching Hospitals St Jamess University Hospital Abdominal Medicine and Surgery Pancreatic Surgery Leeds Teaching Hospitals has a thriving pancreatic unit serving North and West Yorkshire. We are seeking a senior surgical trainee who is approaching or have completed their CCT. We are looking for a surgical trainee to start in February 2025. We would like a surgical trainee to join us for a period of 12 months working with 5 Consultant Surgeons to obtain experience in Pancreatic cancer surgery including minimally invasive and surgery for acute and chronic pancreatitis. The successful applicants must have general surgery experience in the UK. Participation at HST level in the general surgical out of hours rota will be expected. Informal enquires are welcome.
