Are you a Critical Care nurse who has completed a recognised Critical Care Qualification? At Hillingdon we are looking for experienced Critical Care nurses who wish to develop their Critical Care career pathway. We are supported by a team of dedicated Consultants who are responsible for the delivery of medical care for our patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We also have support from AHP’s, administrative staff, health care assistants, ward clerks, housekeepers and volunteers who are all committed to a dedicated MDT ethos. Hillingdon Hospital is an acute and specialist services provider in Northwest London, close to Heathrow Airport. Hillingdon Hospital is the only acute hospital in Hillingdon with a busy Accident and Emergency, inpatients, day surgery, and outpatient clinics. The Trust also provides some services at Mount Vernon Hospital, in co-operation with the East & North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. We are part of the Northwest London Critical Care Network and work closely with other Critical Care Units within North West London. You will take charge of the unit as a shift co-ordinator. During this time you will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of evidence based high quality nursing care. You will also be responsible for assessing patient acuity and ensuring that the unit is staffed appropriately. When not co-ordinating you will be providing hands on expert care delivery. As a Band 6 you will have responsibility for the appraisal and development of a 3-4 Band 5 staff ensuring that they are developing the appropriate skills and knowledge and assessing their competence. If you are new to the Band 6 role you will complete a Band 6 transition Portfolio which aims to give you the skills and confidence to develop your role as a Band 6 sister/charge nurse. Once you have completed your transition portfolio you will attend our unit Band 6 Development Programme supported by our Learning and Development department. As part of your Band 6 development, you will be seconded for 3 months to work with our outreach team and develop your skills in managing the acutely unwell patient in the ward environment. During this secondment you will also gain experience in organising and chairing the Band 6 meetings. You will be supported by your Band 7 Team Leader as well as a dedicated Practice Development Nurse. The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics. The safety and well-being of our patients and of our staff is paramount and we are making urgent improvements to address this – particularly in infection prevention and control.
