To develop, implement and evaluate treatment programmes and behavioural programmes for children under the supervision of a registered nurse and a psychologist. To participate in all aspects of care and to plan an organise therapeutic activities for the children. To comply with the policies and procedures operating within the Service. MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL DUTIES - AS DIRECTED BY THE NURSE IN CHARGE To work under the direction of senior nursing or professional staff as appropriate. To supervise children, as necessary, with all aspects of their physical care e.g.bathing, toileting, dressing. To participate in the preparation and serving of meals. To supervise meals, eating with the children as required, ensuring accurate monitoring and recording of food intake and food avoidance. To assist and supervise children with domestic activities e.g. washing up, tidying the service and other chores. To lead on the recreational, therapeutic and educational programme for children, both inside and outside of the service. This includes supporting teachers during lessons, in the management of childrens behaviour, assisting children with their understanding of the work required of them and providing them with one to one support where necessary. It also includes planning therapeutic and recreational activities outside of school hours and in the holidays including trips and outings To act as a key worker for children under the supervision of a registered nurse. This will include home visits and school visits, completing all admission procedures, attending all CPA reviews and discharge meetings and providing reports as necessary. The key worker will also liaise with the family during admission providing regular feedback and updates on progress. They will also be centrally involved in the development and implementation of behavioural programmes and in joint working with other members of the MDT. To participate in staff and clinical team meetings as required. To contribute to the assessment, implementation and evaluation of treatment plans and risk management plans for children and their families. To give accurate, informative verbal and written reports on patients as required and to complete and log a range of outcome measures To liaise with parents and other agencies, i.e. teachers, social workers, school nurses, MDT etc. as required. To ensure confidentiality and discretion in the use of information following Trust procedures on Information Governance. To undertake any other reasonable duties when requested to do so by your line manger. To ensure the safety of all children on the unit is maintained at all times and that the unit guidelines on Behavioural Management are followed. ADMINISTRATION To report any stock items which require requisitioning. To report promptly to the Service Manager/Nurse in charge any necessary repairs and other deficiencies in patient and staff areas. To be aware of all health and safety and emergency procedures operating within the department with the regard to the safety of the children at all times. To undertake any other administrative tasks as directed by the Service Manager/Nurse in charge. To accurately document behaviours and other relevant information in childrens records on a daily basis. To provide precise written records of incidents of restraint and other serious incidents. Communication Always act in a dignified and responsible manner with patients, visitors, and colleagues, using appropriate language and communication skills, which acknowledge cultural differences. Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with other health care professionals, disseminating information related to the delivery of care. Refer to other health care professionals and seek guidance where there are limitations in personal knowledge, skills and competence on specific issues relating to the delivery of care. Ensure that key information is communicated to staff and patients, feedback to generate best practice solutions To participate in staff and clinical team meetings as required. EDUCATIONAL To participate in teaching and training sessions made available. To participate in individual and group supervision offered by senior nurses and other professionals. GENERAL To participate in regular appraisals on an annual basis. To work a 24 hour shift system including regular night duty. To be prepared to work in other areas within the Trust if required.
