The department is accredited to UKAS ISO 15189:2012 standards. We serve a population of approximately half a million and we processes over 420,000 tests per year providing a comprehensive diagnostic service including Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, Infectious Disease Serology and Molecular testing. Interview date : To be confirmed. Main duties of the job We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and hard-working team player with a keen eye for detail to join our very busy Microbiology team. Your duties shall involve work in Bacteriology, Mycology and Parasitology. You will be expected to work closely with other team members in the receipt, checking, recording and preparation of samples using the LIMS, and equipment such as analysers, fridges, centrifuges, incubators etc. Participate in processing of Serology and Molecular samples. Loading blood culture bottles onto the blood culture analyser and removal of negative samples. All duties and tasks should be in accordance with SOPs and if difficulties are encountered these should be referred to the Band 4 Associate Practitioner, Biomedical Scientist or Senior BMS as relevant. Applicants should have a good basic standard of education to match NVQ Level 2, GCSE or equivalent in Maths, English, and Science subjects plus basic keyboard and communication skills. Experience is preferable but not essential as full training shall be provided. The successful candidate will be required to work 1 in 4 Saturdays. Please note the dept. is currently going through a management of change (MoC) process. As a result candidates should be prepared to work shifts and/or to work from a different site in the future. Help to manage stock by informing the Laboratory Manager or deputies when stock levels are running low or are in excess.
