The Metabolic Unit is an integrated Outpatient Department where a range of diabetes, endocrinology and cardiovascular risk clinics are held. The unit’s role is to provide a high quality, safe and supportive environment in order to care for patients, meeting their identified physical and psycho-social needs. Podiatry, dietetic and retinal eye screening services for patients with diabetes are also provided within the multidisciplinary unit. An investigation suite with four day beds is used for patients undergoing dynamic endocrine function tests, and a Direct Access Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring Service is also provided for GP referrals across Lothian The Metabolic Unit A&C team manage Administrative and Clerical processes for approximately 16,000 outpatient attendances per year.
