The post-holder is responsible for the assessment of needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programs of care. This midwife is expected to work in a case-loading model and carry out all midwifery care for women booked within the homebirth service including intrapartum care in the home setting. Excellent risk assessment skills are essential to identify risk factors and refer appropriately, working with the multi-disciplinary team as required. If working within the integrated service the post-holder would be designated to take charge regularly of a ward area or an equivalent sphere within midwifery in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility.
