The post holder will alongside the Senior Nursing Team ensure safe, kind effective care is given to all ED patients. The role requires experience within ED nursing, managing on a daily basis the flow of patients within the department, escalating any obstacles and issues to the ED Operational Manager and the Senior Nursing Team. They will demonstrate initiative and be creative in finding solutions to problems and have some responsibility for team performance and development. You will assist in maximizing best use of clinical resources, in the monitoring and evaluation of patient flow, admission and discharge planning and support the initiation of improvements. To work competently and manage all areas within the Emergency department. Ensure patient records are maintained and stored in accordance with the Trusts policy, taking accountability for the collection, collation, and evaluation and reporting of information. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining effective communication with patients, relatives and carers to always ensure their involvement in the decisions about treatment, planning and the delivery of their care. You will assist your manager and work collaboratively with your team, other professionals and agencies to always ensure the patient’s needs are met, especially in relation to their on-going health care requirements, their transfer and their discharge planning. You will participate in supporting the patient and public involvement activities in the department area, leading to service improvement. You will be accountable for maintaining your active status on the NMC register. You will support your manager in ensuring your and the teams daily practice fulfils the professional requirements as outlined by the NMC code of conduct and guiding documents. The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations: The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population. The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000. The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery.
