The successful candidate will lead on delivering a patient focused service to medical patients with an emphasis on supporting acute medicine and emergency care specialities. The first year of this post will be focused on developing and piloting a new clinical pharmacy service into the Emergency Department. Key to this will be developing the role of the pharmacist prescriber, looking at innovative ways to improve medicines optimisation for our acute and emergency patients. The postholder will be an integral part of the acute medicine and emergency care team, working alongside pharmacy colleagues and clinicians to lead on the provision of pharmacy support. This post is based at the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital although there is an expectation that the post holder would work closely with colleagues at all sites to support continuing patient care. For clarity, the initial 12 month pilot into ED will be reviewed based on service evaluation and if discontinued, this post will be incorporated into the acute trust wide clinical pharmacy service. You will be a motivated individual who will assist in shaping the service and the clinical contribution we provide. Ideally you will hold an independent prescribing qualification or be willing to work towards. Within your area of responsibility, you will: Lead a pilot service into ED developing a skill mixed clinical pharmacy service over an initial 12-month period.Provide leadership to both the acute medicine and emergency care specialities including input into the MDTProvide prescribing and clinical support to the emergency department and medical wardsSupport acute medicine and emergency care colleagues with advice and support, and in areas such as clinical guidelines, patient safety and governance. You will be required to possess good communication and interpersonal skills, be able to work effectively in busy environments both independently and within a team. You will work closely with Clinicians and Nursing colleagues to support and promote the safe and effective use of medicines as well as ensuring the cost-effective use of resources.
