Main duties of the job The role is to provide support to the trained nurses in caring for their patients. A large part of the role involves maintaining high standards of cleanliness to ensure infection control standards are met. Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities This post is designed to provide support to the trained nurse in the delivery of patient care and in the effective and efficient preparation of bed areas and equipment. The job does involve a shift work pattern which includes nights and weekends. For full details please refer to the attached Job Description but some main duties of this job are: To help in the delivery of basic patient care under direct supervision of a trained nurse. To develop specific skills as requested by your Team Leader and carry them out as per agreed Trust policies and standards. To strip, clean and make up beds as per Unit policy after discharge of a patient. To re-stock equipment, disposables/consumables in preparation of admission in bed areas. To be aware of Lifting and Handling procedures. To report all accidents and untoward incidents to the Nurse in charge. To respect and maintain the rights, dignity and confidentiality of patients. To take reasonable steps to ensure the safekeeping of patients’ property in accordance with Hospital policy. To develop effective channels of communication with all disciplines, patients and relatives. To provide support to relatives and family of a patient with empathy during their distressing time. To undertake other duties as directed by the trained nurse, such as the delivery and collecting of items from stores or pharmacy.
