Victoria and Albert HDU is a 10 bedded Cardiothoracic Ward caring for a range of patients with complex needs including aortic dissection, aortic root surgery, and a range of valve procedures, cardiac bypass grafting and minimally invasive cardiac and thoracic surgery. Additionally the unit will provide care for cardiology patients undergoing emergency procedures and ITU step-downs. Working as an integral member of the team the post holder will have the opportunity to further expand their own clinical knowledge and expertise as well as developing their managerial skills, participating in the day to day running of the ward, providing expert clinical support and supporting the development of the junior members of staff. We would welcome applications from individuals with significant post registration experience, the mentorship preparation module or equivalent, experience in the field of cardio- thoracic is desirable. What can we offer? The area is supported by a team of Practice Developments Nurses - who offer 1:1 clinical supervision, teaching and study opportunities. Support to attend conferences/study days Access to in-house band 6 leadership training and coaching skills To provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to both the patients and their relatives within the King's College Hospital. To take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of or as delegated by the Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse/ Head of Department. To assist in the leadership and development of an identified group of nurses within the ward complement. To act as a clinical resource within the ward and across the Care Group as necessary. To act as a positive role model to junior staff members.
