An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to work within the Complex Spinal Surgery Team at Barts Health. This will be a 12 month secondment, to cover a maternity leave. You will be a reliable and constant member of the Complex Spinal Surgery team, supporting patients and relatives through their whole care pathway and providing advice and guidance for patients after discharge. You will be expected to develop close links with A&E, ITU, HDU and the wards multi-disciplinary teams. There will be components of education, practice development and audit to the role. We are looking for a Registered Nurse, with experience in acute neurosciences and/or spinal surgery. You will have experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team and given the opportunity to practice under the direct / indirect supervision of the Lead Nurse for Complex Spine. The following morning the complex spinal cases are referred to the Complex Spinal Consultant for that day, alternating between orthopaedics and neurosurgery. The Spine CNS will attend morning handover daily (Mon-Fri), to capture new referrals and ensure these are discussed with the appropriate consultant and a plan implemented in a timely manner. The spinal CNS has a pivotal role in coordinating and maintaining the communication between the different members of the team, in order to ensure the smooth and effective delivery of care. There will be a significant amount of audit, research & governance activity and the CNS will be expected to contribute to this in the form of data collection. Close liaison with the wards, A&E and ITU/HDU is essential. As a constant member of the team, the CNS will be invaluable in liaising with staff, patients and relatives, providing constant support and promoting adherence to the several care pathways. The successful candidate will have initiative, drive, able to work as part of a team and independently under the close supervision of the senior spinal CNSs and the spinal surgery consultants.
