This fixed term post is for duration of 12 months and will be reviewed. Duties will include all those duties normally expected of a Specialty Doctor in a similar sized Radiology department in the United Kingdom; with the majority of the appointee’s time being spent on clinical duties. The successful candidate will provide a Radiology service as a member of the Directorate. These may be across sites [Royal Preston Hospital or its local CDC Healthport site, Chorley District Hospital] depending on Directorate service requirements. This job requires on-call commitments; and the post holder will be asked to participate in the general radiology on-call rota. The successful applicant should be a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists, or equivalent. As a Specialty Doctor you will be expected to provide Diagnostic Radiology Services to the standard of a Senior Specialist Registrar, with consultant supervision as necessary. Key Duties Of The Role Independent performance and interpretation of imaging studies, as a minimum, in the following modalities: plain film, contrast studies, and ultrasound. Supervised interpretation of cross-sectional imaging studies, and supervised performance of nonvascular intervention. It is anticipated that the degree of consultant supervision required will gradually reduce as experience is gained. Management of the department to maintain efficient and timely patient flow with specific reference to both local and national targets. Assist consultant staff in maintaining staffing levels including covering short term sickness Close liaison with nursing, medical and radiographic staff to ensure patient care is maintained and all trust policies and procedures are adhered to. You will be required to take an active role in the teaching of junior doctors and be involved in the training of all staff, and to take an active role in teaching and audit. Other duties which may be allocated by senior staff to ensure the proper care of patients and management of the departments. Support, teaching and experience will be provided for career development as appropriate. The successful applicant should be a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists, or equivalent. The Radiology Specialty unit is managed within the Clinical Directorate structure and sits within the division of Diagnostics, Clinical Support and Performance. The Radiology Directorate comprises Radiology, Neuroradiology, Ultrasound, Vascular and non-Vascular Interventional Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, including SPECT scanning and Oncological Radiology. Mammography is performed at the Chorley and South Ribble Hospital site. The successful candidate will be an employee of the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
