Ward A5 is a 28 bedded trauma orthopedic unit based on the 1st floor at Wythenshawe hospital. We have a high number of fragility fracture patients and a dedicated trauma co Ordinator’s team to expedite surgery. We work closely with the MDT to ensure right care, right place and right patient. Many of our patients live with dementia and our nurses excel in building relationships with the patients and relatives alike. Working closely with patients living with dementia provides opportunities to support the latest thinking in nursing. In November 2020 A5 became the MFT Neck of Femur Unit, and the trauma coordinator team independently manage our own beds, allowing direct handover from A and E at Wythenshawe and the MRI. The shared vision of the unit was to deliver a seamless multi-disciplinary, patient centered approach to the care of patients with a fractured neck of femur in order to improve the outcomes for our diverse population across the city of Manchester. Are you are a Registered Nurse working at Band 6 or 7 level with experience in leading a team and looking to further develop your career? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, dynamic nurse at Wythenshawe Hospital, to lead a 28 bedded Ward that makes up the Orthopaedic Fracture Neck of Femur Unit on A5. This requires an experienced and highly motivated individual to undertake the role of Ward Manager on ward A5. A successful individual must be highly motivated to take on this challenge meeting head on the pressure to maintain high standards and delivery of quality care, whilst leading the nursing team. The post holder will manage all aspects of clinical standards and professional practice within the service and will manage and coordinate staff budget resources and the environment. You will help shape future services working and supporting the Matron and Lead Nurse within the Trauma & Orthopaedic Division. Substantial experience as a Band 6 within Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery and hold a mentorship qualification is required. You must have excellent communication and strong leadership skills to uphold the standards and values of the trust. You will demonstrate key leadership and management skills and will be responsible for providing clinical and professional leadership for a team of staff supporting the service, including utilising your leadership and clinical skills to meet the needs of the unit. The implementation of service development in line with the Trust Nursing and Midwifery Strategy and divisional objectives will be key, incorporating work to maintain the quality of the patient experience.
