We provide a comprehensive diagnostic and research scanning service to hospital specialities and GPs. Expected working pattern is: - Monday: 2.5-hour shift (17:30 - 20:00) - Tuesday: 5.5-hour shift (14:30 - 20:00) - Friday: 12-hour shift (07:30 - 20:00) DXA scanning experience is desirable but training could be provided. Applicants should be able to work independently after initial assessment and training has been completed and signed off. For further information please contact Lead DXA Technologist Kelly Cheal Tel: 012 1371 2282, Email: kelly.cheal@uhb.nhs.uk CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES *To undertake unsupervised and be accountable for bone density scans of patients and maintain the highest possible standard of radiography, frequently working alone. *To check and verify bone densitometry requests, against agreed protocols, for clinical appropriateness. *To assess the condition of the patients and determine the most appropriate and effective method of examination. *To ensure bone evaluations are acquired to a high standard to allow appropriate diagnostic reporting of bone density results. *To analyse bone density examinations using manufacturer specific software or in-house analysis techniques according to departmental protocols or as instructed and to transfer completed scans to PACS. *To provide a high level of patient care throughout the patient's attendance, paying particular attention to the welfare and dignity of all patients undergoing bone density evaluation. Be responsible for ensuring that at all times the needs of the patient are met and that confidentiality of patient data is maintained. *To provide complex, sensitive detailed and accurate information to patients undergoing bone density examination. Convey such information to patients in a manner and using terminology that is easily understood. Be aware of limits of own knowledge, referring patients to a more senior member of staff where required answers exceeds level of own knowledge/understanding.
