The successful candidate will hold an appropriate Speech and Language Therapy degree; postgraduate training in paediatric dysphagia; be able to work independently as well as part of a team; and have experience of working with children with eating and drinking difficulties as well as speech, language and communication difficulties. This post will require the Therapist to engage with the child and their family, with schools and within nursery settings to ensure the provision of a comprehensive specialist speech and language therapyservice to a range of care groups . This includes specialistassessment, differential diagnosis, clinical decision making and provision ofappropriate levels of intervention based on best practice. The post holder will frequently work alone and unsupervised; support (and work with) junior colleagues; contribute to discussions on proposed local clinical guidelines, protocols and care packages and attend speech and language therapy team meetings, inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary meetings. This post requires the candidate to drive to various locations across Essex. About us Duties, Responsibilities and Key relationships of the job Operational or Strategic Responsibilities: To ensure the provision of a comprehensive Specialist Speech and Language Therapy Service to the care groups specified in the job summary. This includes Specialist assessment; differential diagnosis; clinical decision making and provision of appropriate levels of intervention based on best practice To provide training to school staff and parents as required To adhere to quality guidelines and participate in service monitoring and clinical audit To adhere to agreed administrative procedures for the service including the collection of statistical data To adhere to the service plan and agreed protocols To contribute to discussions on proposed local clinical guidelines, protocols and care packages To independently maintain the operational running of delegated parts of the service To frequently work alone and unsupervised To support/mentor Band 5 therapists and supervise assistants, volunteers and students and contribute to their development To fulfil statutory requirements towards other agencies.
