The post holder will liaise with the Consultants in relation to the clinical aspects of the work and fellow Site Lead BMS's of Blood Sciences on departmental issues. They will be responsible to the Network Lead BMS with respect to the technical aspects of the job and accountable to the Specialty Lead BT Consultant for provision of the service. The Site Lead BT BMS will be the scientific, technical and managerial lead for the Department of Blood Transfusion. The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating a quality, efficient and timely Blood Transfusion service as requested by the service users, ensuring departmental protocols, policies and Standard Operating Procedures are adhered to and updated to comply with regulatory and accreditation requirements including UKAS and conform to ISO 15189:2022 (where applicable). Ensure KPI targets are reviewed and adhered to such as TAT and consistency of results. Maintain discipline and deal with grievance issues; counsel or interview as appropriate. Participate in the selection and recruitment of new staff. Take a leading role in the Patient Blood Management Committee, Blood Management Team and Hospital Transfusion Committee where appropriate. Participate in the Regional Transfusion Committee. Apply technical and scientific judgement in the selection and procurement of supplies and materials. Ensure compliance of the department and staff with Good Manufacturing Practice, Good Practice Guidelines and compliance with the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations and associated codes of practice issued by the Medicines Healthcare Regulatory Agency Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements including UKAS ISO 15189:2022 Investigation of incidents and complaints relating to Transfusion.
