Experience of working in general practice is essential. Applicants should be computer literate. You will need to work unsupervised so the ability to use your own initiative and prioritise your work is essential. Flexibility to cover holidays and staff sickness as and when required is a must. The post is a permanent position, subject to satisfactory references, required employment checks appropriate to the post and a successful 6 month probation period. Duties include but aren't limited to:- Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way. Provide general reception and administrative duties as part of a team. Assisting other members of the practice team as required. Provide a helpful and friendly service to patients. Answer the telephones promptly ensuring that all in-coming lines are covered at all times. Processing prescription requests. Dealing with queries. Coding of clinical letters (if appropriately trained) About us Making appointments for general surgeries and clinics over the telephone and at reception desk by use of computerised appointment system. Greeting patients. Dealing with queries or signposting them to the relevant member of staff, eg Doctor, District Nurse, Health Visitor, Practice Nurse etc. Dealing with internal and external phone queries. Filing/Scanning. Entering requests for home visits on visit screen and informing the on-call doctor. Accepting, issuing and ensuring that repeat prescriptions are signed and ready for collection within the specified time limits. Sorting new patient medical records ready for summarising. Dipstick testing of urine samples before being sent off to hospital. Ensuring that all pathology samples are labelled correctly and sent. Use your own judgement and effective communication skills. Assisting clinical staff with clerical work, eg flu clinics etc. Populating nurse clinics, eg smears, asthma, COPD, LD etc Actioning tasks on a daily basis. Knowledge of coding and/or summarising advantageous. Knowledge of how to perform RMS referrals advantageous. "}
