An opportunity has arisen for a Speech and Language Therapist to join a highly experienced, multi-professional health and social care care team working with people with learning disabilities in Oldham. The post-holder will be based within the Integrated Learning Disability Team. We deliver high quality health and social care assessments and interventions to people with complex and challenging needs. The team comprises of community nurses, social workers, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, care coordinators, assistant practitioners and psychiatry input. The team is located at the new Oldham Council Offices in the Spindles Shopping Centre. The team works across the borough of Oldham which has a population of approximately 235,000. Delivery of evidence based Speech and Language Therapy assessments and interventions to adults with learning disabilities who may have complex and challenging needs. You will be working in a multi-disciplinary context with the expectation to be person centred, creative and innovative in meeting the communication needs of individuals whilst offering support to families and carers. The postholder will be an excellent team player who demonstrates the ability to work effectively and productively. Key Responsibilities of the Post: To undertake, highly complex swallowing and communication assessments in order to diagnose speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders. To develop hypotheses based on assessment and implement Specialist Speech & Language Therapy treatment and programmes of care and discharge appropriately. To use evidence based practice to inform clinical decision making in relation to communication impairments and dysphagia. Key Requirements of the Person Specification: Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent Evidence of the successful completion of post basic dysphagia qualification. Previous experience of working with individuals with learning disabilities Well established knowledge of relevant national and local policies, procedures and clinical guidelines (relevant to the client group).
