We also deliver a pain service. The recovery unit consists of 6 bays catering for both adult and paediatric patients. The ward attached to the Unit has 31 Trolley spaces and accommodates patients for overnight stay for up to 23 hours. We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our Anaesthetic/ Recovery team. You will have the motivation, vision, and leadership qualities necessary to lead a safe, productive, and efficient team. You will have the ability to support, teach and develop junior staff and facilitate the delivery of high standards of safe patient care in the operating theatres. You are required to communicate effectively with the MDT, Matrons, and Clinical Coordinators, be empathetic and able to remain calm and focused under pressure. You must be a Registered Nurse or ODP who holds an accredited Anaesthetic course and has recent, proven Anaesthetic experience. A recognised post qualification education course is also essential. This is a full time post and, at the moment, there are no requirements for substantive weekend work. We are in search of a flexible dual nurse/practitioner who care about providing the highest standard of perioperative care to their patients and keen in developing their existing skills. You will have the motivation, vision and leadership qualities necessary to lead a successful theatre team and have a genuine interest in the perioperative environment. As a key member of the senior team, you will deliver high standards of perioperative care, and have the ability to support and develop theatre practitioners to facilitate excellent patient care in the operating theatres. About us To provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to both perioperative patients and their relatives within the King's College Hospital. To take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of or as delegated by the Senior Nurse/ Service Manager. To assist in the leadership and development of an identified group of practitioners within the Unit complement. To act as a clinical resource within the Unit and across the Care Group as necessary. To act as a positive role model to junior staff members. CLINICAL PRACTICE To adhere to the NMC / HPC Code of Professional Conduct at all times. To demonstrate clinical expertise in the care of any patients receiving treatment in the department. To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the needs of patients on an ongoing basis, co-ordinating the care given by all members of the clinical team. To accurately assimilate and interpret clinical information about the patients condition, instigate appropriate remedial action and promptly report changes. To act as a resource person to others, providing accurate information, advice and support to the multidisciplinary team, patients and their relatives. To ensure that accurate records are maintained reflecting both changes in the patients condition and the treatment delivered. To ensure that patients and their relatives are updated regularly with accurate information, and ensure that this is presented in a sensitive way and one that they understand. To ensure that Clinical Guidelines are implemented and to be actively involved in auditing practice in conjunction with Line Manager and practice development staff. To ensure that practice is evidence based and with support assist in the development of policies and protocols within the clinical area. To uphold high standards of perioperative care, according to existing policies and standards. To support the process of continuous quality improvement, assisting in audits etc to formally evaluate standards of care and assist in the implementation of changes in the light of such findings. To organise patient transfers both within and outside the department, escorting ill patients as requested. To contribute to the health education of patients and their families, ensuring that all patients receive appropriate advice and support to maintain a healthy lifestyle. To actively support the implementation of the Trust nursing / local perioperative strategy and uphold the ethos of the local philosophy.
