This is to provide parental leave cover for the current substantive consultant. The post is for 6 months, commencing in Nov 2024. The BAU is currently collocated with the Maudsley Adolescent Unit service, on the Bethlem site, prior to their move into the new Pears Maudsley building. The separation of the 2 services will take place during the successful applicant's tenure. The successful candidate will be S12/AC approved and provide clinical leadership to the service and take consultant responsibility for an increasing number of patients (both informal and detained), from the current 6, in the combined service, to 10-12 when the BAU is fully individuated again as a service. The role is full time with 7.5 DCC sessions and 2.5 SPA sessions, but those seeking a less than full time role are encouraged to discuss such arrangements. The Bethlem Adolescent Unit (BAU) is a general adolescent psychiatric unit. We are seeking to employ an enthusiastic Locum Consultant Psychiatrist to provide medical and wider clinical leadership to the service in order to provide excellent standards of inpatient psychiatric care for adolescents. The consultant role involves clinical and medical leadership for both the MDT and junior medical staff. This involves direct assessment of all admissions, formulation of treatment plans in conjunction with the MDT, liaison with other agencies (both clinical and non clinical), supervision of junior medical staff, chairing of meetings with both clinical and non clinical agenda, and facilitating discharge through the CPA process. About us Key Responsibilities: 1) Assessment and management of children and young people, and to provide psychiatric input for both routine and emergency clinical care. 2) Supervision of junior medical staff. It is expected the post holder will be an accredited clinical supervisor or will become so if not already 3) Attending and chairing clinical meetings as timetabled. 4) Liaising and communicating with the MDT, other professionals, teams and agencies 5) Strong clinical leadership 6) Provision of advice to other CAMHS teams. 7) Participation in peer and group supervision meetings. 8) Participation in training of medical students, psychiatric trainees and multidisciplinary staff. 9) Adherence to agreed job plan and appraisal procedures set by the Trust. 10) Maintain GMC registration, maintain a License to Practice and participate in CPD to remain in good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
