If you are looking to keep up your clinical skills within a modern-forward thinking organisation, then this role could be what you are looking for. University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire is a friendly, supportive and innovative place to work. You will be working across the acute inpatient service which covers both UHCW and Rugby St Cross Hospital. Our service provides input across multiple wards including respiratory, neurology, care of the elderly, emergency wards and critical care. The successful candidate will be expected to work autonomously with adults with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties, providing assessment, diagnosis and intervention approaches. You will have the independence to manage your caseload whilst being part of wider team to ensure safe, quality and effective care. Please note that dependent on experience and knowledge, you can be appointed at either band 6 or band 7 level. Dependent on experience the main duties of the job include: Undertake comprehensive assessment of patients with dysphagia and/or communication difficulties including those with complex presentation. Investigate & analyse skills & formulate individualised management & treatment plans and specialised programmes of care Interpret & analyse clinical & non-clinical facts to form accurate diagnosis & prognosis on wide range of highly complex conditions to recommend the best course of intervention, evaluate outcomes, reassess & to develop comprehensive discharge plans Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment plans as required Accept clinical responsibility for the dysphagia caseload and organise this effectively and efficiently. This will include prioritising and allocating patients appropriately for more junior staff Be professionally & legally responsible & accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care. Provide specialist advice, teaching & instruction to relatives, carers & other members of the MDT regarding SLT issues. Engage in department and own CPD activities. Participate in health promotion activities of the department. Participate in other duties as required such as maintaining a clean safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness hygiene & infection control at all time. About us Expert knowledge of relevant policies and strategies within own area of practice and use evidence base to inform SLT practice and contribute to service development. Provide line management, operational lead and service lead responsibilities as required for the role. Act as an advocate to always promote awareness of the role of Speech and Language Therapy within the hospital. Act as an advocate for patients communication and swallowing difficulties within own area of work. Communicate effectively, plan, organise & work collaboratively with medical nursing & therapy colleagues to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinated multidisciplinary service. Adapt own dietetic practice to a continually changing healthcare landscape and support changes in service provision when necessary Take accountability for quality of own work whilst consistently striving to improve patient care by adhering to departmental and Trust standards and guidelines and embedding local / national policy / procedure / guidance into practice Take responsibility for own decision making as well as the decisions of the leadership team which affect service delivery.
