We are looking for a Biomedical Scientist, who is professional, reliable, innovative and flexible to join our friendly and hardworking team. This department offers full training and future development opportunities for the right candidates to further develop their skills and ambition. The Haematology & Blood Transfusion department is part of the Blood Sciences department of University Hospitals Dorset. The post is based at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital, but the successful candidate may also benefit from working at our laboratory in Poole. The modern department offers a wide range of diagnostic testing facilities for Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals as well as local GP practices. The department is fully UKAS accredited and an IBMS accredited training laboratory. The successful candidate will regularly rotate through all sections of the Haematology & Blood Transfusion department and will be required to participate in the 24/7 shift system. The ideal candidate will have a BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent, be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a BMS, have completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio (Haematology) or have equivalent proven experience at Band 6 level in Haematology/Blood Transfusion. Evidence of Continual Professional Development (CPD) will be expected to be demonstrated at interview.Candidates completing their Specialist Portfolio may be considered however they would start on band 5 if unable to satisfy the Specialist BMS criteria and will be promoted to a Specialist BMS upon completion of the Specialist portfolio. About our team? The Haematology department is well equipped, including 3 Beckman Coulter DxH 900s, a Starrsed RS ESR analyser, and 2 Sta R Max coagulation analysers. The clinical Haematology department is internationally renowned as a centre of excellence for chronic blood disorders including chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and myelodysplastic syndromes. The Coagulation department supports a comprehensive haemophilia service and provides a full range of coagulation tests The Transfusion department is keen and progressive contributing to several NHSBT pilots and steering groups, the latest being one of four full sites for the Integrated Stock Management Scheme.
