The merger of three cardiac services into the new cardiovascular centre creates a new world-class institution that will provide state of the art cardiovascular care to a population of six million people. Under the leadership of the local academic health science network, UCL Partners, we are striving for excellence in academic and clinical domains, including the appointment of new clinical academics to ensure future excellence. The adult CHD service provides all aspects of care to around 12000 patients. There is a busy surgical and congenital interventional programme and sub-speciality services including pregnancy, PHT, Aortopathy and Transition (based at GOSH). The successful appointee will join the existing team of 6 CHD consultants (Dr Amit Bhan (clinical lead), Dr Seamus Cullen, Dr Filip Zemrak, Dr Bejal Pandya (clinical director of specialised services), Dr Kate Von Klemperer, Dr Fiona Walker), to develop and deliver in-patient and outpatient care for adults with CHD whilst also developing Aortopathy services for screening and inpatient consult for this patient group. Key aortic surgical contacts are Prof Aung Oo, Mr Ben Adams and Ms Ana Lopez-Marco. Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care. Leadership, development and organisation of the services in his/her charge in line with the Trusts' business plans. Liaison and communication with the Clinical Director for ACHD, General Manager and Director for the Cardiovascular Clinical Academic Group. With the agreement of the Clinical Director and Clinical Academic Group Director, development of his/her own interests and sub-specialities within the specialty, in line with business planning principles and commissioners' approval, including active participation in research programmes. Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training. To participate fully in the management of the department and to liaise closely with the Clinical Director, Service Manager, General Manager and Clinical Academic Group Director. The post holder may be required to carry out other duties in emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. The duties outlined are not definite and may be changed in accordance with needs of the service requiring the post holder to be cooperative and flexible. About us To work within and between the adult CHD and Aortopathy teams, to provide expert care and consult services for inpatients with Aortopathy (with Drs Pandya and Von Klemperer). He/she will also provide outpatient care for new and follow-up patients with CHD and also provide Aortopathy clinics and echo clinics for these patients. He/she will also participate in the care of outreach CHD OPD provision developing a new outreach hub within Barts & The London NHS Trust. There is also an in-patient care commitment for adults with CHD with daytime ITU / ward cover on a weekly basis (1:6) and He/she will join an on-call rota, which provides 24/7 CHD cover on a 1 in 6 rota. He/she will also provide a consult service for Aortopathy inpatients on a 1:3 in-hours basis. The out of hours rota requires a commitment based from home, which includes phone call availability and consult for acutely sick admissions. Time off in lieu can be considered for out-of-hours attendance at the hospital. OP clinics have typically 10 patients with 1-2 new patients per list. The in-patient workload is around 5pts but can vary. Participation weekly MDTs attending the CHD and Ao MDT alternating weeks. The post holder will fully contribute to the administrative, teaching and research activities within Barts Health and the Heart Hospital. All consultants represent the department on various committees within the trust as well as taking responsibility for particular delegated areas according to their interests and availability.
