The role involves a range of services including phlebotomy, ECG's, wound care, suture and clip removal, NHS health checks, injections. This role is open to experienced Health Care Assistants only. This role is for 18 hours and must include a 6.30 finish on a wednesday. This role will also involve working regular saturdays The role involves managing own caseload of patients. This will include wound care, removal of sutures and clips, phlebotomy, ECG's, blood pressure, annual health checks. With correct experience and/or training this can also include hypertension monitoring and ear irrigation. About us Health Care Practitioner Line Manager Nurse Manager Accountable to Nurse Manager Hours per week 15 Job Summary To be responsible for the delivery of phlebotomy and other associated tasks, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The post holder will work under indirect supervision of the clinical team and undertake tasks and duties delegated. They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of the patients, following policies and procedures. Learning and Development The effective use of training and development is fundamental in ensuring that all staff are equipped with the appropriate skills, knowledge, attitude and competences to perform their role. All staff will be required to partake and complete mandatory training as directed by the training coordinator, as well as participating in the practice training programme. Staff will also be permitted (subject to approval) to undertake external training courses which will enhance their knowledge and skills, progress their career and ultimately, enable them to improve processes and service delivery. Professional Conduct At The Orchard medical Centre staff are required to dress appropriately for their role. Administrative staff will be provided with a uniform whilst clinical staff must dress in accordance with their role. Primary Responsibilities The following are the core responsibilities of the HCP. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels: It is anticipated HCPs will develop skills in respecting patient/clients rights, preferences, choices, culture, identity, communication, Health and Safety and promoting health. To be aware of maintaining patient/client confidentiality at all times. Will not undertake any task or element of care until he/she has been assessed as competent by an appropriately trained registered nurse. To act as a chaperone as required to GPs/Nursing Team. To maintain standards of organisation in the treatment, practice and GP rooms. To assist in general nursing duties on completion of a training programme and the successful assessment of a set standard competency level and under the supervision of Practice Nursing Team, i.e. hypertension, ear syringing, spirometry, dressings, all eligible vaccinations, delegated activities from specialist clinics e.g. foot assessments for diabetes, urine testing, weight/height, blood pressure measurements, ECG recording, phlebotomy. To prepare/assist the GPs in minor surgery/IUD fitting. To be responsible for the correct maintenance, cleaning and disposal of surgical equipment. To be responsible for the re-stocking of all clinical areas and maintaining a stock rotation system. To ensure that drug/vaccine refrigerator/s are running at the correct temperature on a daily basis and maintain the Vaccine Cold Chain. Be aware and maintain standards of Infection control. Instruct patients in appropriate techniques or tasks. To behave in a professional manner at all times, being aware of how attitudes and personal behavior can impact on patient/client care and the team as a whole.
