The post holder will develop theoretical and practical experience in a variety of educational methods in the healthcare setting. This will include full-scale immersion scenarios using human patient simulators for single and interprofessional disciplines. The post holder will work closely with the Director of Medical Education, the Trust Lead for Simulation, the Simulation Manager, Simulation Specialty Leads and a dedicated faculty and will be participating fully in the development, organization and delivery of training programmes aimed at medical student, foundation programme doctors, and other specialty trainees and healthcare workers. The post holder would also be expected to contribute to the running of local faculty development courses. Attendance and input to business unit meetings is expected to gain experience of the management of such a service. The post holder will be encouraged to undertake research projects primarily in educational methods and simulation applied to medicine, and will be working with and supported by HEKSS in the arena of medical simulation. Attendance at local and national meetings on various aspects of medical education and patient safety initiatives is expected and obtaining a teaching qualification would be highly encouraged. In addition to programmed time in medical simulation the successful post holder will spend time in theatre, with a 1 in 8 on-call commitment with internal cover on one of the two Anaesthetic rotas covering theatres or Labour ward. The fellowship is open to applicants who have their primary FRCA or are sitting the OSCE /VIVA in May and above and have an interest in medical education/simulation. To work as part of the Anaesthetic Team as a registrar providing support in theatres/obsterrics Attend theatre lists as allocated on the rota to administer anaestheic for elective/emergency operating lists. To participate in the Registrar on-call rota 1:8 pattern. Department academic and audit meetings are held regularly and the registrars will be expected to take an active part.
