The Department delivers a wide array of genetic testing and interpretative services, incorporating both molecular and cytogenetic techniques, to provide a comprehensive service for both germ line and malignancy testing. We are seeking a highly experienced Clinical Scientist to join the Senior Management team as a Consultant Clinical Scientist. The successful candidate will possess significant leadership and change management experience, be highly conscientious, innovative, have a broad understanding of the national genomics agenda and be passionate about the future of Genomics. Working alongside the Senior Management team and East GLH colleagues, you will use your clinical, scientific and managerial knowledge to help shape and develop the department and ensure successful delivery of genomic testing locally and as part of the wider East Genomics region. Applications are invited from candidates with HCPC registration, with an extensive background in Molecular Genomics or Acquired Cancer. The ideal candidate will be an experienced Senior Clinical Scientist with FRCPath. Candidates working towards FRCPath part 2, will be considered at annex 21. You will be a highly motivated individual with a positive attitude to change and a proven record of resource management and team building, as well as evidence of leadership. The candidate should have excellent organisation, interpersonal and communication skills. Duties include but are not limited to: Providing strong visible leadership and taking a lead role in supporting the service annual plan and delivering the trust strategical genomics plan. Operationally, advise on appropriate investigative strategies in complex clinical situations. Lead on the operational implementation of new policies across the service and genomic laboratory hub. Ensure quality and safety is in line with ISO 15189:2022 standards, Human Tissue Act and Care Quality Commission regulatory arrangements for diagnostic services. Be responsible for managing the workforce effectively in line with Trust policies, procedures and legislative requirements. Take responsibility for managing training of new and existing staff, ensuring a high-quality workforce is maintained. Support a developmental culture where staff are empowered and accountable for service improvement at a local level. Strategically, advise the senior management team of appropriate genomic scientific strategies, including latest research and developments opportunities whilst working closely with the wider GLH team in devising and implementing these strategies in accordance with NHSE national directives.
