The post is based across both sites and comprises Cancer Genetics consultant sessions at the Royal Marsden and new Consultant sessions in the Breast Unit at the West Middlesex. The post is for 4 PA's in Cancer Genetics, and 4 PA's in Breast Medical Oncology. The specific role of a clinician with experience in both Oncology and Genetics is required to support and facilitate the aspiration of the Royal Marsden Hospital to increase access to germline genetic testing. Building on the success of our mainstreaming model in breast and ovarian cancers, we are exploring digital technologies and transformation pathways both at RM, Genomic Medicine Service and national levels. Testing is increasingly performed in Oncology with Cancer Genetics services providing support, whilst focusing their expertise on patients found to have a genetic predisposition to cancer. A joint position between the Royal Marsden Cancer Genetics Unit and West Middlesex Breast unit will strengthen the existing close ties within our Genomics Laboratory Hub and facilitate good clinical care and research. Roles and Responsibilities The duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service. Clinical Duties: o Multidisciplinary team working is a key component of the working within the Trust and involves regular MDT meetings with colleagues o To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive, efficient and high-quality evidence-based Oncology service, with continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care (with administrative support) o Leadership, development and organisation of the services in his/her charge in line with Trust / Divisional business plans. Development of sub-specialty interest that fit in with Division needs and the strategic direction of the Trust. o Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties are required, and for contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate and continuing medical education activity. o To engage in job planning and the appraisal cycle and to contribute to the appraisal of doctors in training. o Provision of cover for Consultant colleagues' periods of leave in accordance with arrangements agreed within the Trust policy. o Participation in clinical audit and continuing medical education o Conducting suitable duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. Specific duties of the cross-site post at Chelsea & Westminster FT (WMUH) & Royal Marsden Hospital Breast Cancer To provide with colleagues day to day outpatient and inpatient care and supervision of patients with breast cancer as part of the multidisciplinary breast team. To attend the weekly Breast Multidisciplinary meetings To provide, with colleagues, clinical care and supervision of patients attending the Day Unit for systemic and supportive therapies To help develop breast cancer services across the organisation To actively participate in the recruitment to and development of breast cancer research studies To care for any inpatient under their care Cancer Genetics The appointee will be expected to have an active role in the management and administration of the clinical service including On average one face to face Cancer Genetics clinic per week plus telephone follow up appointments Sharing consultant responsibility for the triage of referrals to the department and review of mainstreaming genetic test reports Close liaison with genetic counsellors, oncology colleagues, laboratory teams, genetics colleagues within our hub and nationally Contributing to the development of the units objectives and business plan. Working within the department to seek ways of improving the efficiency of the service Contributing to the risk management of the department and the development and maintenance of best clinical practice through Clinical Governance. Participating in medical audit, both procedural and clinical as appropriate Contributing to the clinical and translational research activities of the unit In post, any appointee will be expected to liaise with his/her consultant colleagues in providing internal cover for annual leave and sick leave and under exceptional circumstances this may require some flexibility in the post holders hours. On-call responsibilities for any urgent issues during the day are handled in the first instance by genetic nurse/counsellor staff with Consultants sharing second on call responsibilities. After hours on call is not required. The post-holders will have secretarial support from the units medical administrators. There is also support from the departments of IT, medical illustration, and audit. General library facilities are available in the ICR at Sutton and London. Parking is available at the Sutton site but is extremely limited at the Chelsea site. "}
