The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the pharmacy service to the medical admissions unit in Morriston Hospital. The role will involve working collaboratively with pharmacy colleagues, clinicians, nursing staff and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical care to newly admitted medical patients. The role will be mainly ward-based, providing and supervising a range of medicines management services for patients on the admissions unit. The role will also involve identifying areas for improvement in pharmaceutical services within the admissions areas and implement strategies to enhance efficiency, quality, and patient satisfaction. A major component will be the proactive provision of timely, evidence-based advice to prescribers to enhance patient care and promote cost-effective use of medicines. Supervision, mentoring and training of junior colleagues will also be a major component of the job. The post holder will participate in dispensary duties and provide clinical leadership to junior pharmacists and trainees. In addition, the role will require the ongoing completion of core directorate activities including analysis of medicines expenditure, clinical governance audits, service improvement projects and risk management.
