We offer a consultant led and delivered service which allows long term doctor patient relationships. If you enjoy patient care then this is the place to work. The post is integral to maintaining the quality and range of the services provided by the Department of Gastroenterology. The department provides the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including advanced therapeutics such as stenting and facilities for Video Capsule Endoscopy are in place, but currently not used. The department offers specialist services in inflammatory Bowel Disease (including a joint medico-surgical MDT), rapid access dyspepsia endoscopy clinics, nutrition and hepatology including elective oesophageal variceal treatment. This post offers the opportunity to specialise in any of these areas. The post holder will be expected to work in partnership with all other members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver clinically effective, safe, high quality gastroenterology services to our population. The post holder is expected to undertake service development review and evaluation to improve/expand current practice. All appointees are required to participate in all departmental activities, including audit, sharing the administrative responsibilities and contributing to the further development of the department and the Trust. About us The Post The post is integral to maintaining the quality and range of the services provided by the Department of Gastroenterology. The department provides the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including advanced therapeutics such as stenting and facilities for Video Capsule Endoscopy are in place, but currently not used. The department offers specialist services in inflammatory Bowel Disease (including a joint medico-surgical MDT), rapid access dyspepsia endoscopy clinics, nutrition and hepatology including elective oesophageal variceal treatment. This post offers the opportunity to specialise in any of these areas. The department is research active and participates in a number of portfolio studies and is supported by the Bardhan Research Foundation. There are links to the Gastroenterology and Hepatology departments at Sheffield & the liver transplant unit at Leeds; monthly Hepatitis MDTs with the Hepatologists/ID Physicians are held. Gastroenterology is a core member of both the upper and lower GI cancer MDTs and the department has close links to the Trusts Alcohol Liaison Service. The post holder will be expected to work in partnership with all other members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver clinically effective, safe, high quality gastroenterology services to our population. The post holder is expected to undertake service development review and evaluation to improve/expand current practice. All appointees are required to participate in all departmental activities, including audit, sharing the administrative responsibilities and contributing to the further development of the department and the Trust. The post holder will be expected to provide high quality management of gastroenterology services to the populations of Rotherham and Barnsley through: The provision of a consultant gastroenterology service for inpatient and outpatient services ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department. The provision of a senior clinical role in the continuing development of the gastroenterology service in Rotherham. The post holder will be expected to play a full and co-operative part of the gastroenterology team, maintaining full clinical responsibility for patients under the teams care on the gastroenterology ward or outlying wards as part of the rolling team timetable which includes provision for gastroenterologist of the week. This may include the provision of advice and or assistance to Consultants in other specialties and the proper delegation to and training of junior medical staff. "}
