These do not carry SAC or college approval for training at present and would therefore suit a post CCT or equivalent individual. (Previous fellows have been able to have part of the fellowship counted as Out of Program Training, after necessary SAC /deanery approval). The post will be based at the Department of Burns & Plastic Surgery, at the City Hospital and Queens Medical Centre. The advertised post is for 12 months, starting February 2025. The Microsurgical Clinical Fellow timetable is quite flexible to accommodate the fellow needs but also the departmental needs. The post holder will be allocated to assist and will gain training in microsurgical reconstruction2-3 days of the week. One day will be given to other duties within the department including trauma or covering absence of colleagues if necessary. As a senior trainee it will be expected that help will begiven to junior trainees in oncological reconstructions as well as coordinating trauma and other cases.One day each week (or 2 half days) could be made available for the individual to attend cosmetic surgery lists within the private sector if they wish. This will be outside of the hours for this post. There are 21 Consultants in the Department. The successful candidate will join 6 Specialist Registrars, 3 trust grade posts at registrar level, 8 Core Trainees and 1 Foundation Year doctor About us There is dedicated non-resident on-call with this post. The post holder will be part of a 1 in 9 registrar on call rota. This includes Hot-week on call commitments. The post holder will be expected to be competent in initial management of common Plastic Surgery emergencies including major burns (adult and paediatric) and operative management of basic hand trauma including tendon and nerve repairs.The successful candidate will be required to know well the patients that are under the care of the subspecialties and helps with the running of the Department. The fellow may be given an opportunityto do some independent operating providing they have discussed this with the appropriate Consultant and providing it is not affecting the safe running of the Department.The candidate would be responsible for collecting data and presenting yearly free flap audit at the department.
