By providing time and space to listen to any concerns, and by providing information and guidance wherever possible, some of the related stresses may be better managed. This then maximizes the carers supportive resources, and also improves the recovery experience of the service user. This post was created to directly address the needs of NEIS carers. The primary task of the role will be: to engage NEIS carers; to encourage them to share their personal journey; to explore their appraisal and emotional reaction to these events; to assess their support needs; and to provide psycho-education and sources of information and support. This work will very often require the use of interpreters. They will have a foundational understanding of psychosis, and of carer-focussed support programmes. They will work alongside the qualified psychologists within the team to develop and support the wider MDTs relationship to this new intervention. This may involve providing consultation, teaching and training to the team. They will provide continuity of care by establishing good working relationships with the community services including the wider secondary care psychological service. The post holder will be required to identify the carers of NEIS clients, and to manage a database of this information. They will also log offers and uptake of the intervention. The post holder will carry out service audit, research, and evaluation in line with the service needs, often within the framework of Quality Improvement (QI). The post holder will be an active member of QI initiatives, and will have opportunities to enhance skills in data processing, inputting and analysis; liaising with other members of the QI team; disseminating this work. The post holder will be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, specifically MS Excel. The post holder will be supported to learn about psychosis, EI teams, and how evidence-based psychological approaches are utilised in these settings. They will foster an awareness of power and the impact of discrimination and disadvantage in relation to a range of identifiers including but not limited to: gender, race, ethnicity, economic status, sexuality, religion and age. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Assistant Psychologist to work in the Newham Early Intervention in Psychosis Service.
