The post holder will be expected to carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contribute to post graduate and continuing medical education activities locally, nationally and internationally. Additionally the post holder will undertake responsibilities for the administration of local training and research meetings. The post holder will be expected to carry out audit and activities associated with Clinical Governance as required by the Trusts and or by the Royal College. This includes attendance at the bimonthly Trust-wide surgical audit meeting. All surgical activity (excluding emergencies) is cancelled to facilitate attendance at this audit meeting which is rotated through the week to ensure that no particular teams are regularly adversely affected. The post holder will join the joint plastic surgery clinic which currently takes place on Wednesday in Chelsea. This clinic provides time for all plastic surgery consultants to work together and the successful candidate with play a central part in developing and improving this model. Due to the nature of the services offered at The Royal Marsden the post holder will operate on adult patients only unless in the case of emergencies and with prior planning. They will undertake operating sessions at both Chelsea and Sutton and will undertake ward rounds of inpatients on each site as necessary. Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. This is a full time (10PA) locum consultant post based on both the Chelsea and Sutton sites of The Royal Marsden. The appointee will be appropriately experienced in cancer reconstruction surgery and be able to manage a high clinical workload. Although the appointee will be expected to contribute to the large clinical workload supporting all clinical units, he/she will primarily provide reconstructive support across both sites of the hospital. This is fixed term for 12 months. It is envisaged that the successful applicant will help to enable the Trust to improve and maintain performance within national waiting time targets for immediate risk reducing and delayed reconstruction, and to meet patient choice around immediate reconstruction at the time of surgery for cancer. This role will be suitable for a surgeon who is adept at balancing competing demands and is comfortable with being flexible and responsive to help meet the service needs of the department. There is an expectation that the candidate will be willing to work flexibly to make use of adhoc available theatre sessions. This includes covering annual leave and Saturday operating on a 1:4 basis.
