The successful applicant will take appropriate action on the results obtained, utilise professional knowledge and skills to provide advice and guidance to service users. and maintain highly complex analytical equipment in optimum operational condition and to utilise necessary interpersonal skills to ensure effective liaison with service users and to provide the best care for the patient. The successful candidate will develop competence and confidence in order to perform these procedures with a minimum of supervision. The post holder will also be expected to take part in the 24/7 working. Annex 21 will also be considered. Use specialist knowledge across a range of procedures, authorise test results integrating and initiating further tests as appropriate. Take responsibility for finishing, checking, validating and authorising the work of colleagues as necessary. Check validity and reliability of analytical processes, maintaining and monitoring satisfactory performance by internal quality control and external quality assessment. Ensure that external QA program results are collated and transmitted to organisers. Manipulation of materials and objects such as microscopes, and pipettes for accurate and reliable determination of results and diagnosis. Set up and check instrumentation for correct operation, troubleshooting and correcting faults. Maintain instrument, QC and reagent logs and utilise resources cost effectively. Monitor fridges, freezer alarms and incubators and react to alarm / failure situations. Routine and specialist analyses, validation, interpretation and reporting of results Maintain complex analytical equipment Involved in the supervision, teaching, advising and informing off all grades of staff particularly in Routine theory and techniques Member of the Departments team responsible for stock control Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all aspects of Caldicott Build upon the post holders acquired technical and analytical knowledge achieved through specialist training and a BSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent. Gain specialized technical and analytical knowledge by participating in ongoing training and experience Maintain specialist technical and analytical knowledge by participating in CPD Ensure compliance with all local and national standards of work practice Maintain the knowledge and expertise necessary to perform specialised procedures Maintain the necessary specialist knowledge and skills sufficient to work independently, seeking advise only when deemed necessary.
