The physiotherapy team covers the clinical specialities of gastro-intestinal and liver, endocrine and the acute frailty ward with a focus on delivering high quality acute rehabilitation following step down from critical care and acute illness. The post holder provides specialist acute physiotherapy assessment and treatment of patients on the medicine wards (endocrine, gastro-intestinal and liver specialties) and the acute frailty unit who have a range of psycho-social, physical and emotional problems including long term conditions and step down from critical care. The post holder is responsible for the operational management of the medical physiotherapy team working closely with the medical band 7 occupational therapist to ensure an effective and efficient service. The post holder is responsible for supervising junior members of the physiotherapy team as well as non -registered team members and PT students/apprentices. The post holder participates in service development and clinical audit supported by the Principal OT- Senior Health, Medicine and Specialist Medicine. The post holder participates in 7 day working across the Trust supporting effective and timely discharge on the medicine and senior health wards. The post holder also participates in the night on call respiratory physiotherapy service. The role offers the opportunity to initiate and participate in evidence-based projects, including recommendations for change in practice.
