AFU is a busy geriatric medical ward that specializes in frailty care. Caring for short stay frailty patients ensures a varied role. We are looking for a Healthcare Assistant who can work in a busy environment who possess excellent communication skills, can maintain a high degree of confidentiality is enthusiastic and has a passion for frailty care. Duties include providing a high standard of care by providing personal hygiene care, maintaining patient tissue integrity and providing pressure area care, recoding of observations, assisting with feeding requirements, documentation overseen by a registered nurse, assisting with mobility needs, communication to patients/relatives/carers and working with in the team to support your colleagues in providing a positive experience for the patient. Our patients need care 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, so youll need to have flexibility to work day, weekend and night shifts. Main duties of the job Your role as a Health Care Assistant (HCA) is to work alongside registered nurse as part of the ward to provide care to patients. The types of duties include: washing and dressing patients, serving patients meals, assisting with feeding patients when necessary, helping people to mobilise, assisting patients with toileting, bed-making, generally assisting with patients' overall comfort, monitoring patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight. Acting with compassion you will put patients at the centre of all you do. You will communicate effectively with patients and their carers. This role will require you to work variable hours on a rota including nights and weekends. You will show courage by embracing new ways of working and doing the right thing by the people you care for, including speaking up when you have concerns. About us You will assist with washing and dressing patients, using hoists as appropriate. You will assist with serving meals and feeding patients, including reporting on their intake and recording on charts as appropriate. You will assist with toileting, escorting patients to and from the lavatory and recording outputs where necessary. You will assist with monitoring patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight You will assist with patients mobilisation, ensuring safe environment and using appropriate techniques. You will make beds and help to ensure the ward/department is kept clean, tidy and safe. You will communicate with patients and their relatives with care and compassion. You will help to ensure that patients are kept comfortable and receive personalised care. You will be involved in patient booking in / admission, introducing patients to ward / department area as directed by registered nurse. You will assist with the recording and safe keeping of patients property and valuables.
