We are looking for passionate and enthusiastic individuals committed to excellent patient experience to join our team. Oak Ward is much more than just a surgical day unit, not only do we cover for a wide range of paediatric surgery from Orthopaedic to ENT we also care for medical patients requiring specialist investigations to infusions. Our day unit comprises of 12 beds, caring for children and young people up to the age of 18 years. The unit is situated next to the Paediatric inpatient ward which we work in close partnership with. Core opening hours are Monday to Friday with shifts of 0715hrs - 1945hrs. You are guaranteed to gain a wide range of knowledge and experience. Outpatients is a dynamic unit covering a wide range of clinics including Haematology, Endocrine, Epilepsy, Allergy, Cardiac, Urology and Paediatric Surgery. Outpatients is split between St Peters and Ashford Hospital. The team carry out investigations like Sweat Tests and assists with the Specialist Nurses. Previous experience is an advantage, PILS is desirable, however all staff are supported with a comprehensive induction program, preceptorship training as we encourage staff to develop in every aspect of their career. As a team ensure that clinical and housekeeping practice follows policies/procedures designed to prevent hospital acquired infection To undertake link nurse responsibilities as required Promote and implement evidence-based practice Support the Senior Team and CPEs in relation to programmes and strategies for professional development, education and training for colleagues and students Keep up to date with professional knowledge keeping and current practice and competencies specific to Oak Ward or Outpatients. Understand the educational objectives of all ward staff, acting as preceptor/mentor. Be innovative, support and help to manage change Maintain a professional attitude including appropriate personal appearance in accordance with the Uniform and Dress Code Policies Be aware of how to report incidents, accidents, concerns or near misses and how to deal effectively with complaints About us On Oak ward you will be expected to help coordinate and faciliate patients attending for day surgery from admission to discharge, liaising with the play team, bookings, theatres, aneasthetists, surgeons and recovery to ensure the best care is given to all patients. You will also help oversee and arrange specialist infusions, bloods transfusions and specialist investigations like endocrine and food challenges. In Outpatients you will help coordinate the running of the clinics on a daily basis liaising with receptions and the doctors from each speciality like Urology, Paediatric Rapid Access and Cardiac to ensure any and all investigations like observations, urinalysis and weights are carried out. You will also have an opportunity to support the diabetic service with their clinics in Stephanie Marks Centre at St Peters. Along with your colleagues you will support the ward manager with any audits and QI projects taking on the role of a link nurse. Clinical/ Professional Responsibilities To practice nursing and delivery of patient care in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust/Unit Policies and Procedures. Be responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the care needs of patients on the ward/unit, ensuring safe practice and maintaining high standards of care Maintain up to date, comprehensive and accurate records of clinical care, the patients condition and other relevant information. Act as an effective role model and demonstrate effective organisational and leadership skills. Deputise for the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse and their deputies. Participate in planning and implementation of quality initiatives and targets, in conjunction with the Ward/Unit Manager, Modern Matron and Head of Nursing. Be conversant with current emergency resuscitation techniques and fire regulations and procedures both in theory and practice. Ensure the safe custody and administration of drugs. With the Ward/Unit Manager and their deputies ensure that clinical and housekeeping practice follows policies/procedures designed to prevent hospital acquired infection.
