Experience within this specialty is desired but not essential as we are able to provide a thorough training programme. The post-holder will be based on Lowen Ward, however there is an expectation that nurses will be willing to support our sister day case unit, The Headland Unit, should the need arise. Lowen Ward is a 24 bedded ward caring for Haematology and Oncology patients requiring inpatient treatment. Patients are admitted to Lowen Ward for intervention at varying points during their cancer journey. We also care for patients post stem cell transplantation undertaken at Derriford Hospital. To support and enhance our nurses we have in house practice educators who work closely with new starters and guide our nurses to becoming competent in the delivery of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT). It is an expectation of all our Staff Nurses that they will undertake this training. On-going education and development is actively encouraged and there is access to degree level modules in Chemotherapy, Oncology and Haematology, These posts will provide an opportunity for the successful candidate to significantly develop their clinical skills and knowledge base. Full and part time hours are available. Informal visits and discussions are actively encouraged. Our new ward provides a: 24-bed Haematology and Oncology ward Haematology/ Oncology Day Assessment(HODA)which is our ambulatory emergency day care unit to support acute oncology patients Palliative Care Suite with a safe and private sensory courtyard garden Iodine Therapy Suite We have an improved space for the care of patients with Cancer, the new Haematology / Oncology Unit is now a contemporary clinical environment delivering the highest standards of care and infection prevention and control. To be able to provide this additional capacity and enhanced services we are looking to recruit motivated and enthusiastic nursing staff that can take Cancer Nursing care into the next decade and beyond.
