Advise on all aspects of Maxillofacial prosthetics and reconstructive science, providing advice to Consultant colleagues and other staff in a variety of settings including multidisciplinary teams (MDT), operating theatres and outpatient clinics To attend and advise in a Clinical / technical capacity in MDT clinics for Head and Neck Oncology surgical planning, implant and reconstruction and for Orthognathic patients. To conduct patients prosthetic rehabilitation consultations, care of prostheses and carry out procedures accordingly. To take facial impressions for patients with acquired facial disfigurement and fit facial and other prostheses to patients. Provide clinical and technical information regarding the long-term management of a medical device, oro-facial prosthesis or care of osseointegrated implants. To provide training, guidance and advice to other laboratory staff, Clinicians, other healthcare professionals, Students and Work Experience Placements and quality control of their work. Provide training in surgical implant design and preparation, 3D virtual surgical planning and associated 3D printing. To provide and receive complex written and oral communication with consultants, other clinicians and laboratory staff, patients and family, administrative and nursing staff, students and work experience placements within the department, the trust and outside organisations. 3D virtual surgical planning and printing T o provide highly complex and specialised 3D Head and Neck Oncology, Orthognathic and Trauma surgical virtual planning service with a high degree of individual responsibility including innovative development work, design and manufacture of patient specific implants and cutting guides for complex facial reconstructions. To manipulate clinical data i.e. 3D CT MRI to simulate and plan surgical procedures, resection of bone and reconstruction of defect with planned fibula / scapula/ DCIA and anastomosis planning. Planned position of boney cuts and design and placement of implants for use post-surgery, and construction of bespoke design of titanium plates. A comprehensive work up of the patients planned surgery to be prepared for Theatre ensuring the full work flow, measurements, bony adjustments, implant placement are included. Cutting guides to be designed and printed to ensure no compromise to healthy tissues and to reduce Theatre operating time and improve patients recovery time. To design and print 3D models for teaching purposes, construction of nasal septum buttons, surgical planning, visual aids and other clinical requirements. To electronically scan and capture intra and extra oral digital data using departmental intra oral scanners and use for further planning and patients records. Technical To plan, design and manufacture highly complex appliances and prostheses for patients with traumatic injuries, benign or malignant disease or congenital deformities. To fit and activate (as necessary) in the clinic or operating theatre and maintain a clinical review of custom made medical devices. i.e.Facial Prosthetics, Keloid splints, Sleep apnoea appliances Provide clinical and technical information regarding the long term management of a medical device - i.e. Radiotherapy stents, oro-facial prosthesis, care of osseointegrated implants, patient specific 3D printed devices Plan design and manufacture complex deep buried implants in titanium and other materials- i.e.Patient specific Implantable pre bent plates for Head and Neck Oncology, Patient specific nasal septum obturators for septal perforation. Use department equipment computerised systems i.e.Laser welding equipment, state of the art 3D Printers, knowledge of Materialise software. Proplan-Mimics-3Matics- Enlight CMF. To produce titanium plates for Head and Neck Oncology reconstruction surgery, trauma surgery, orbital fractures etc To produce a full range of complex highly specialised orthodontic appliances, routine, functional and fixed for all orthodontic services for this Trust and the private Orthodontic service. To produce both routine and highly specialised prosthetic work including implant retained and advanced prosthetics using acrylic and chromium cobalt metals and a full range of other materials. To plan and present surgical movements required for osteotomies in a legible form and produce appropriate fixation appliances for during and post operative care. We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Maxillofacial Prosthetist / Reconstructive Healthcare Scientist to join our team of bank staff. The successful candidates will provide support and cover for the substantive Maxillofacial Prosthetist in H&N Oncology and Trauma support, Orthognathic surgery planning using the SAM system and 3D virtual planning, and facial prosthetic patients. We are a multi-disciplined team providing cover across 2 sites, supporting 5 Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, 3 Orthodontic Consultants and 1 Restorative Dentistry Consultant and their clinical teams. The modern fully equipped laboratories offer 3D surgical planning and printing, comprehensive clinical photography and full technical and clinical service to the trust and external users. "}
