In the event of a critical bed state, open escalation ward areas for patient placement ensuring patient safety remains a priority at all times. Liaise with other Trusts in the area regarding bed states. If necessary, co-ordinate the transfer of patients to and from other hospitals and units. Manage and co-ordinate any critical incident which occurs within the Trust. Participate in and co-ordinate the Trusts Emergency Response Teams to fire, security alerts, cardiac arrests and other clinical emergencies. Play an active role in the action of sectioning patients under the Mental Health Act and use of the Child Protection Order. Allocation of bank and Agency staff and redeployment of nurses within the Trust to match resources to workload. Record all actions taken on safecare so to maintain live and accurate records. Undertake designated responsibilities in the event of a Major Incident. Assume the role of Major Incident Co-ordinator until relieved by the Site Matron or other experienced manager. The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse role covers 24 hours a day. The role is distinctively different during in hours and out of hours. In hours, includes working with the Divisions to achieve performance indicators and quality standards. Out of hours, you will support the Site Matron for escalation processes, operational and staffing issues, escalating to the on-call teams as required and lead the co-ordination of the Hospital 24/7 Team, prioritising and delegating workload and resources effectively.
