GENERAL SUMMARY The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Advisor plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of employees, protection of the environment, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards within the organisation. This position involves a combination of risk assessment, regulatory compliance, training, and incident management. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS) Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of local, national, and international regulations pertaining to environmental health and safety, ensuring continued certification to International Standard ISO14001 and ISO 50001. Interpret regulations and ensure organisational compliance through policy development, implementation, and monitoring in line HS&E Guidance HS(G)65 and OSHAS Standards. Manage the provision of an effective occupational health service to satisfy the requirements of the business and legislation to comply with all legislative wellbeing health checks. Support in the Management of all EHS data including statistical information and incident reports etc. Environmental Management: Integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into EHS initiatives, working to enhance the organization's sustainability performance, foster stakeholder trust, and drive long-term value creation through responsible business practices. Maintain waste management strategies to minimise environmental impact and promote sustainability initiatives within the organisation, including waste reduction, recycling programs, and proper disposal practices in compliance with local requirements. Maintain contact with the external bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), safety and environmental organisations, emergency services in order to keep informed of new initiatives and examples of best practice. Oversee environmental management systems, including monitoring of electricity, gas and water, and implement measures to minimise environmental impact and ensure compliance with regulations and standards. Site Security: Collaborate with security personnel to assess and address potential security risks, ensuring the integration of security measures with EHS protocols for comprehensive site safety and protection of personnel and assets. Risk Assessment and Management: Conduct risk assessments across various operational areas to identify potential hazards and assess associated risks. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks and improve overall workplace safety. Provision of advice on all EHS issues relative to the operation of the business. Training and Education: Develop and deliver training programs to employees on topics such as hazard communication, emergency response, and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage. Promote a culture of safety by providing regular communication and education on EHS-related matters. Provision of leadership in pro-active risk management including behavioural based safety programmes. Incident Investigation and Reporting: Lead investigations into workplace incidents, accidents, or near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective/preventative actions. Auditing and Continuous Improvement: Conduct routine audits and inspections of facilities, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance with EHS standards. Identify areas for improvement and work with stakeholders to implement corrective measures. Development and implementation of an annual EHS Strategic Plan to facilitate continual improvement in EHS performance. Participate in site wide EHS Committee Meetings and help coordinate and drive action points. Participate and a company representative on all internal and external audits ensuring EHS adherence throughout. Emergency Preparedness and Response: Maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios, such as fires, chemical spills, or natural disasters. Coordinate drills and exercises to test the effectiveness of emergency procedures and response teams. EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Qualified to NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) with membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (or working towards). IEMA qualification with experience in environmental issues to fulfill requirements of Environmental Management Representative. Passionate, confident, enthusiastic, motivated and pro-active personality. Strong influencing, communication, self-management, team working and people skills are essential. Computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft, SAP and Internet applications. OBJECTIVES & MEASUREMENTS Continual improvement in EHS performance (to company targets/key performance indicators). Continued compliance with EHS legislative requirements (no adverse notices or prosecutions). Achievement of improvement project objectives (to strategic plan targets). Management of financial spend in line with budgetary requirements (to budget). Specific objectives as set annually and reviewed via the quarterly PDP process.
