At RIE, there are approximately 4000 patients reviewed annually with acute respiratory disorders. Of these, the Respiratory Nurse Specialist (RNS) team, consult on a significant proportion of patients. Additionally, 750 newly diagnosed patients with Lung Cancer are referred to NHSL from various centres situated in Southeast Scotland. Being able to triage workload to ensure patients, carers and members of the multi disciplinary team are fully informed at all times is essential. Working as part of the Lung Cancer Nurse Specialists and Respiratory Nurse Specialist teams, the post holder will contribute to the care of both in-patients and out-patients within the respiratory department of Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. There may be an expectation to adopt cross site working. The post holder will be involved in the following activities: Carry out basic patient observations and venepuncture. Assist Specialist Nurses with vascular line insertion. Assist the team in the ordering of stock, and patient provisions from pharmacy, and using the PECOS system to maintain adequate and appropriate stock levels. Following appropriate training and competency review, assist in the teaching of aseptic non touch technique for patients self administering IV antibiotics at home. Help manage diary commitments, and keep clinic templates updated on TRAK. Liaise with appropriate teams to manage, and co-ordinate patient care. After appropriate training, support the RNS team in the education of patients receiving long term oxygen therapy. For More Information About The Role, Please Read The Flyer Attached.
