Outpatient clinics Clinical assessment of patients with intraoral hard and soft tissue lesions, dentoalveolar pathology, TMJ pathology, head and neck lumps, salivary gland pathology, skin lesions, oral and maxillofacial trauma and head and neck malignancies. Operating sessions The Specialty Doctor will be expected to undertake outpatient operating sessions within the department. These sessions will primarily be for minor oral surgery procedures under LA and neonatal tongue ties. The department also offers minor oral surgery procedures under IV Sedation. There may be opportunity to undertake procedures under GA. Accident and Emergency Duties The postholder will be expected to hold the department bleep and respond in a timely manner to any emergencies referred by the Emergency Department or other Trust Specialties. The department does not provide an out of hours service, this is provided by Luton and Dunstable Hospital. Other Duties There are regular audit meetings for which normal clinical activities are cancelled in order that all members of the department can partake. All members of the team are encouraged to partake in clinical audit (internal and external audits), clinical effectiveness and risk management, which will assist in shaping improvements and service developments. On occasion it will be expected that the postholder will lead on these audits and subsequent improvements. Personal and Professional Development The potholder will be responsible for their own self-development of their skills and competences. Annual appraisal is a Trust requirement. Accountability and responsibility The post holder will be clinically responsible and report to the Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Milton Keynes University Hospital and the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery are seeking to recruit a part-time OMFS Specialty Doctor based on 6PA`s per week to join our existing team. The candidate will have adequate experience in dentoalveolar surgery including paediatrics, maxillofacial and dental trauma, oral medicine, conscious sedation, and infant lingual frenulotomies. Milton Keynes is part of the Luton & Dunstable OMFS hub and spoke network, which provide OMFS services for the communities of Milton Keynes, Bedford, Luton and Dunstable and Stevenage. This postholder will be directly employed by Milton Keynes, and therefore will not be required to provide any out of hours on call service. The postholder will share the responsibility of the day to day running of the OMFS service, which will comprise of undertaking operating lists, outpatient clinics, supervision of junior staff, holding the bleep and seeing emergencies.
