This is a new post and is based at William Harvey Hospital, Ashford with the children’s diabetes team. It will add to the provision of psychological services to children and young people with diabetes across the multiple clinic sites and two inpatient units. We are looking to recruit a clinical psychologist with an interest in working with children and young people with diabetes to work alongside our senior psychologist in the team. The post holder will provide psychological services to children and young people with diabetes and related health conditions and their families seen within the East Kent Hospitals University Foundation children’s diabetes team. This will be mainly outpatient-based assessment and intervention, addressing psychological issues associated with diabetes. There may be some inpatient work. The psychologist will be based in the Paula Carr Diabetes Centre with the Children’s Diabetes Team; the post will involve some provision of clinics at other locations across the Trust. Roles and responsibilities will include psychological assessment and intervention with children and families, group work, staff training, consultation and support and provision of psychological advice as part of the multidisciplinary team, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the departmental policies and practices, with appropriate support and supervision from senior psychological staff as needed. In addition to casework the post includes duties in multi-agency liaison, contributing to training of other professionals, utilising skills in service evaluation and audit, and providing supervision of undergraduate placement students and with appropriate training and experience to clinical psychologists in training on placement as necessary.
