We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic children's nurse with experience of working with children, young people and families living with chronic diseases to take up the post of Band 7 Clinical nurse Specialist in dermatology- specifically responsible for patients and families with Ichythyosis to cover a 6-month Fixed Term / Secondment post. Experience of working across acute/community care would be beneficial but not essential. It is not anticipated that the successful candidate will have knowledge or experience of Ichthyosis, however, it is important to be aware that extensive travel is an essential part of the job, and the ability to work alone and unsupervised are important requirements of the job. Ichthyosis is a rare inherited life-long condition and the common factor is extreme fragility of the skin and mucous membranes. In its most severe forms Ichthyosis is life limiting or progressively disabling. Ichthyosis is a rare disorder with approximately 1:100,000 people in the UK living with it. You will have to opportunity to work closely with the other CNS's as part of the Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) / Skin Fragility Team, working together to provide the best outcome for these patients. Main duties of the job Why we need you: To act as a resource for specialised advice and support for patients and families affected by all types of Ichthyosis To provide continuity for patients and advocating for them to promote access to treatment and proactive management of problems that arise To provide an outreach diagnostic service and support of neonates, their families and involved professionals To co-o-ordinate the care for children at GOSH for out patient appointments and ward admissions To provide information and education to local healthcare staff including Community Paediatric Nurses, Health Visitors, GP's Social Workers and Genetic Counsellors To help train nurses and other healthcare professionals in a local setting so that they may help families with day-to-day management To provide information and being a point of contact for nurseries, schools and colleges and offering visits to give advice on care and management of Ichthyosis To participate in research projects to help improve care pathways and quality of life for people affected by Ichythosis Our organisation: We are only one of two tertiary services within the UK NHS that care for children with EB.
