On this unit no day is ever the same; it is a fast paced environment that strives to provide excellent assessment, efficient treatment and high quality patient care. SEU is a 20 bedded assessment unit that provides urgent care and assessment for a diverse range of acutely unwell surgical patients. We also have an ambulatory area with 6 trollies and 8 chairs, where we provide initial assessment for patients referred via their general practitioners or from ED. In addition to this we run an ambulatory clinic (Mon - Fri) which allows investigations, such as CT/ Ultrasound scans to be done efficiently and at short notice. This clinic helps prevent hospital admissions whilst positively impacting patient experience. This role will involve assisting the team in the efficient running of the unit and caring for surgical patients during their hospital stay. Good interpersonal skills and high standards of written and verbal communication are essential. We also require a caring attitude and motivation to learn and develop practice. Experience in ECG recording, monitoring vital signs, Venepuncture, venous cannulation and catheterisation are also essential. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of infection prevention and control along with an understanding of the surgical admission process. The post holder will need to have an NVQ 3 qualification. This post is a permanent, part time position (23 hours) with the expectation that you would rotate between days, nights and weekends.
