In line with our outlook, we are now inviting applications for posts within Elderly medicine service. Frailty SDEC The Frailty SDEC will provide specialist care for rapid assessments, diagnostics, treatment, observations and discharge of patients who attend via an emergency pathway. The new 15 space unit, comprises of three same gender bays of five chairs and will accept direct referrals from GPs, YAS and patients triaged from the Emergency Department (ED). A small number of trollies will be available if deemed necessary. The unit will empty and close at midnight. Frailty SDEC medical support will be delivered by one Advanced Clinical Practitioner or Trust Grade doctor (8am – 8pm) and a Consultant Geriatrician in-reach model (predominantly based in the ED). On-Call consultants will provide support after 5pm. Generic responsibility and information. The post holder will be a central member of a multidisciplinary team. The post holder will be supported in keeping themselves up to date with current knowledge & practice, expected to attend clinical meetings within the department & to participate in audit & “in-service” training of other healthcare professionals. There are no on call requirement for these posts. The post holder will may be required to deputise for absent colleagues from time to time and to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. The post is not a recognised training post, but would be ideal for those wishing to gain further experience in the specialty as the training, supervision and clinical experience will be similar to that of the training grade doctors and tailored to the postholder’s previous level of experience. Candidates must have full GMC Registration, and a familiarity with issues of service organisation and development would be particularly advantageous. The recruitment programme for this position will take place over one day.
